   The California quail also known as Callipepla Californiaca has brown flanks with white streaks and a curving crest\plume made of six feathers that droop forward. It is black in males and brown in females. Males have a dark brown cap with a brown back and a black face. They also have a light brown belly and a grey-blue chest. Females and immature birds are mainly grey-brown with a light covered belly. Its diet is 70 percent vegetarian because of all the leaves and flowers it eats. The California Quail has a habitat of the Coastal Sagebrush,Chaparral, Foothills, and the High Desert of California.

   The Callipepla Californica's life cycle starts when a male and female mate. The males will have to compete for mating. After mating the female will lay eggs. The eggs are cream and brown speckled. Also the length of The eggs are 1-3 inch or 3.2 cent. The egg width could be up to 1 inch-2.5cm. The eggs are laid in a shallow hollow or a scrape in the ground that is lined with grass. The female incubates the egg for about three weeks. It takes 22 to 23 days to hatch. When the chicks hatch they are black speckled on a brownish whitish fluffy base. They also have a brown and black stripe on there head. there claws are yellow with white tips and the belly's are white. The chins are also white and the head has a brown fluffy base. The chicks will leave there nest shortly after birth. after there ten days old they will finally make there first attempt of flight. If successful after a month, they will roost in trees with the rest of the flock. The life span is 1-4 years.
